RABAT, March 17 (KUNA) — Foreign ministers of the member states of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation re-emphasized Friday the centrality of the Palestinian cause to Muslims worldwide.

This came in the final statement of the 49th session of the OIC Foreign Minister Council which was held in the Mauritanian capital Nouakchott on Thursday and Friday.

They urged the international community take necessary actions to press Israel to stop all illegal unilateral measures and to abide by UN resolutions related to the status of the occupied Jerusalem City.

They stressed that Jerusalem is an integral part of the occupied Palestinian territories, calling on member states to work for the approval of Palestine’s membership bid in the UN.

They renewed commitment of the member states to “preserving the sovereignty of Yemen, Syria and Libya,” expressing “the solidarity of the member states with Azerbaijan, Somalia, Sudan, Djibouti, Comoros, Bosnia and Herzegovina, the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the Turkish Cypriots and the Turkish Muslim minority in Western Thrace.” They affirmed the organization’s “principled position on settling the Jammu and Kashmir dispute by peaceful means in accordance with the relevant UN Security Council resolutions,” and expressed rejection of “terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

They condemned all attempts aimed at associating terrorism to a specific country, religion, gender, race, or civilization.” They called for “activating mechanisms of solidarity and complementarity to prevent terrorist acts in accordance with the principles of international law and the charters of the United Nations and the OIC”.

They welcomed the Saudi-Iranian agreement to resume diplomatic relations and re-open embassies.

Kuwait’s delegation to the meeting was headed by Foreign Minister Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. (end) mry.ibi
