OIC welcomes UN report on Israeli illegal settlement linked companies

JEDDAH The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation welcomed the United Nations Human Rights Office report on companies carrying out activities linked to illegal Israeli settlements built on occupied Palestinian land.

The OIC hailed the step as being extremely crucial, saying it contributes to the protection of the legitimate rights for self determination and control of land and destiny for the Palestinians and boosts compliance with relevant international and UN law.

All Israeli settlement activities in Palestinian lands occupied since 1967, including Jerusalem, constitute a breach of international law, it added.

The Islamic nations’ bloc went on to urge the UN and its agencies, particularly the Human Rights Council, to follow up on taking a decision on the matter and work to strengthen measures for accountability against violations committed by Israel against the Palestinian people.

It also called to ensure the commitment of these companies to halting their activities that contribute to the consolidation of Israel’s occupation and illegal settlement policies.
