Over 1,000 Palestinians wounded in “Great March of Return” – Min.

GAZA, At least 1,143 Palestinians were injured on Friday by the Israeli occupation forces during the “Great March of Return in the Gaza Strip, said Palestinian Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf Al-Qudra.

Among the injured are 149 children, a woman, five journalists and three medics, Al-Qudra added in a press statement.

The Palestinian people have been continuing their “Great March of Return” protests since March 30, the 42nd anniversary of Land Day.

Some 83 Palestinians were wounded by live bullets, while 38 others by rubber-coated metal bullets, he noted.

Al-Qudra denounced the Israeli violations against medical staff in eastern Gaza, Rafah and Khan Yunis with tear gas canisters so as to impede the staff’s missions.

He called on the international organization to intervene immediately for the protection of the field medical staff stationed in eastern the Strip.

In a related context, some local press reports said that a number of Palestinian young people managed to cross the security fence on Rafah, south of the Strip, and broke into the Karm Abu Salem commercial crossing amid the firing of bullets by the Israeli forces.

Meanwhile, The Israeli army said in a press statement that some Palestinian youth people set fire to pipelines carrying gas and feul to the Gaza Strip from Israel after breaking into the commercial crossing, south of Gaza.

Furthermore, the legal and international contact committee of the “Great March of Return” condemned strongly Israel’s continued war against Palestinians along the border fence, and the killing of demonstrators taking part in the march for the sixth Friday in a row.

The committee added in a press remark that crimes by the Israeli occupation forces against demonstrators violate both International humanitarian law and human rights laws.

Despite widespread international condemnation of these acts, the Israeli forces continued attacking unarmed participants in the return marches with live bullets and tear gas, it noted.

Also, the International Solidarity Movement called for taking an action at popular, legal, diplomatic and political levels, including peaceful demonstrations mainly on May 14-15 in front of the US and Israeli embassies.

The aim of this call is to reject decisions aiming to liquidate the issue of the Palestinian refugees and the relocation of the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

The movement considered that such actions will contribute to enhancing international and popular protection for Palestinians and supporting their struggle in order to obtain their rights; lifting blockade, halting settlement policy, racial discrimination and the judaization of Jerusalem as well as ending sufferings of the Palestinian people that have been lasting for 70 years.

Since the beginning of the “Great March of Return”, 45 Palestinians have been martyred, five others kept by the Israeli forces, and about 8,000 others were wounded.
