Pelosi: Trump’s reckless actions make impeachment necessary

WASHINGTON, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi opened Wednesday the House’s debate on the impeachment of President Donald Trump over two charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

“Our Founder’s vision is under threat from actions at the White House,” Pelosi said at the opening of the House debate on Trump impeachment.

“That is why today as Speaker of the House, I sadly and solemnly open the debate on the impeachment of the president of the United States.” She regretted that the president illegal actions have brought the US to that critical juncture.

“It is tragic that the president’s reckless actions make impeachment necessary. He gave us no choice,” she said.

The votes is the culmination of a three-month inquiry into allegations that the President pressured Ukraine to investigate his political rivals and withheld US military aid.

The inquiry led to charges that Trump should be removed from office on two impeachment articles: abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.

For his part, the President described the charges as atrocious lies by “the radical left”.

“Such atrocious lies by the radical left, do nothing democrats. This is an assault on America, and an assault on the republican party!!!!,” he tweeted.

The impeachment debate is held as a new Gallup poll showed that the president’s job approval rating has inched up again and is now at 45 percent.

It also revealed that the president’s ratings have increased six percentage points since the House of Representatives opened an impeachment.
