US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo spoke with British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson on the fight against the Islamic State, the State Department confirmed late Wednesday.
In addition to the ‘common fight against IS,” two top diplomats also discussed the humanitarian situation in Yemen and a number of other ‘global issues’, according to State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert.
Nauert also confirmed Pompeo reached out separately to Pakistani Chief of Army Staff Qamar Bajwa to talk about the importance of taking out militant and terrorist groups in the region ‘without distinction,” Nauert said.
Their discussion also touched on advancing bilateral relations between the US and Pakistan and the need for political reconciliation in Afghanistan, she said.
