Pompeo discusses with Australian PM, counterpart Turkey’s military operation in Syria

WASHINGTON, US Secretary Michael Pompeo spoke with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and Foreign Minister Marise Payne to discuss the ongoing Turkish military operation in Northeastern Syria.

State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a statement Saturday that Pompeo, along with the Australian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister “shared concern about Turkey’s unilateral military operation into the region.” It added that they also discussed “the potentially grave consequences for regional security.” “The Secretary thanked the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister for speaking out on the matter publicly and for their joint statement urging restraint,” the statement noted.
