Pompeo, Jordanian FM discuss issues of mutual interest

WASHINGTON, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met Wednesday with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi of Jordan several issues of mutual interest.

State Department Deputy Spokesperson Robert Palladino said in a statement that Pompeo and Safadi discussed “recent progress in the campaign to defeat (IS), developments in Syria, and King Abdullah’s recently concluded visit to Baghdad.” Pompeo IS hosting today a day of meetings with the foreign ministers of the Global Coalition to Defeat (IS) during which the 79-member Coalition is meeting for discussions on “the impending territorial defeat of (IS) in Iraq and Syria,” as well as the “next phase of the campaign” in Iraq and Syria that will focus on “protecting against a resurgence of (IS) through stabilization and security assistance.
