WASHINGTON, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met in New York on Friday with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss bilateral and global issues.
Pompeo said in a tweet “met with Foreign Minister Lavrov today to discuss bilateral issues and a range of global challenges, including arms control.” “Although we have areas of tension with Russia, we must find a constructive path forward,” he added.
“We’ve worked together before – we can do it again,” he remarked.
Meanwhile, a State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus tweeted “the United States welcomes the Georgia and Russia meeting facilitated by Switzerland.” “We support Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and urge Russia to end its illegal occupation and decrease tensions along the Administrative Boundary Line,” she added.
