Pompeo, UAE FM discuss regional, bilateral issues

WASHINGTON, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo met with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al-Nahyan, discussing with him a broad range of regional and bilateral issues, State Department announced Monday.

State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement that Pompeo expressed his appreciation for the UAE’s “strong support for President Trump’s commitment to countering non-nuclear threats from Iran.” On Yemen, Pompeo and Sheikh Abdullah “agreed on the importance of all sides supporting the UN-led political process, facilitating humanitarian and critical commercial access, and working toward a comprehensive agreement to end the conflict.” On civil aviation, Pompeo thanked Sheikh Abdullah for working with the US “to reach understandings that address concerns important to US aviation stakeholders and strengthen our economic cooperation.” Furthermore, “the Secretary thanked the Foreign Minister for his work on deepening the strong strategic, economic and security partnership between the United States and the United Arab Emirates,” the statement remarked.
