Pompeo: US fully supports Brazil’s steps towards OECD membership

WASHINGTON, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo denied media reports that the US does not support Brazil’s membership in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

“Contrary to media reports, the United States … fully supports Brazil beginning the process to become a full member of the OECD,” Pompeo said in a statement.

He added “we have welcomed Brazil’s ongoing efforts regarding economic reforms, best practices, and a regulatory framework in line with the standards of the OECD.” He affirmed “the leaked letter does not accurately represent the United States’ position with respect to OECD enlargement.” “We are enthusiastic supporters of Brazil’s entry into this important institution and the United States will make a strong effort to support Brazil’s accession,” he remarked.
