RIYADH, Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Saudi Arabia on Monday, a day before heading to the United Arab Emirates as part of a tour in the region.
In his first visit to Riyadh in over a decade, the Russian president is due to hold talks with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz, focusing on ways to improve bilateral ties, in addition to current happenings in the Middle East.
He is also scheduled to take part in Russian-Gulf talks over economic affairs, alongside Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman.
Ahead of his visit, Putin told Arab broadcasters that Moscow enjoys good relations with Gulf states, particularly Saudi Arabia, commending Riyadh for its contributions towards regional stability.
The Kremlin has highlighted Putin’s visit to the two Gulf countries, saying it was important given the “current situation in the Middle East.”
