MOSCOW, Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday described Jordan as a major partner of Russia in the Middle East.
“Jordan has always been a very important partner for us in the Middle East, last year we marked the 55th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our countries,” Putin said at talks with visiting King of Jordan Abdullah II.
The Russian leader noted that the trade exchange between the two countries grew 3.8-fold last year.
“We are very glad to see this, and of course we have a lot to discuss both in terms of bilateral relations and on international issues,” he said.
For his part, the Jordanian King applauded the role played by Russia in the Middle East, especially in pushing forward the political settlement in Syria. He hailed the close bilateral relations with Russia, appreciating Russia’s support to Jordan and the region in general.
Relations between the two countries were based on “frankness and fraternity”, he said.
