KUWAIT, Kuwait’s Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah welcomed the agreement signed in Riyadh on Tuesday by the legitimate government of Yemen and the Interim South Council.
“The accord lays firm foundations for the formation of a government that could be strong enough to lead the intra-Yemeni peace talks in the future,” Al-Jarallah.
He made the press remarks while attending a ceremony held by German Embassy in Kuwait this evening to mark the national day of Germany.
He commended the mediation efforts made by sisterly Saudi Arabia which led to the accord, noting that the deal could serve as entrance to peace talks between the Yemeni government and the Houthis.
Regarding Kuwait’s mediation efforts in the Yemeni crisis, Al-Jarallah said these efforts “did not and will cease.” “We are optimistic that we are on the right track. There are practical steps taken in this direction,” he added.
The Riyadh accord provides for the formation of a 24-member national unity government with north and south Yemen having equal number of ministers.
