Russia announces closure of embassy in Yemen until further notice

MOSCOW– Russia announced Tuesday closure of its embassy in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, due to what the Foreign Ministry spokesperson described as “development of situation.” Maria Zakharova said Russia decided to close the embassy temporarily.

All embassy staff have left Yemen, she was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying, and the Ambassador and a number of diplomats would continue their duties from the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

The security situation has further deteriorated following the killing of former President Ali Abdullah Saleh by the Houthi militias earlier this month.
