Russia on Friday called for maintaining the status quo of the holy sites in Jerusalem and respecting worshippers right to pray at the holy places.

In a press statement, the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed extreme concern about the ongoing escalation in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. It urged all sides to stop confrontations and further escalation.

It called for halting hostilities and re-enforcement of the permanent ceasefire.

The ministry underlined the need for resuming peace process and formulating political solutions for settling the conflict based on the relevant UN resolutions.

The absence of any prospects for political solution to the conflict make the re-eruption of confrontations and clashes inevitable, the Russian Foreign Ministry warned.
