Russia reaffirms Palestinians’ right to establish state

MOSCOW, Russia Wednesday reaffirmed support for aspirations of the Palestinian people towards establishment of their state with East Jerusalem as its capital.

This came in a letter by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey lavrov to his Palestinian counterpart Riyadh Al-Malki, marking 45th anniversary of Russian-Palestinian diplomatic relations, the foreign ministry said in a statement.

Lavrov said the Palestinian people have the right to establish their state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, living in peace and security with its neighbors.

Russia has repeatedly accused the US decision to recognize Jerusalem as capital of Israel, as well as condemned Washington’s position to legalize the illegal Jewish settlements.
