Russia said Saturday it would take retaliatory measures if the US failed to abide by the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF).
Russia is committed to INF and the American threat of imposing sanctions against Moscow would trigger a cancellation of an INF implementation follow up committee meeting, Deputy foreign Minister Sergey Rybakov was quoted by Interfax news agency as saying.
The said yesterday that the INF with Russia was “under threat today” and in addition to a diplomatic solution, it is “pursuing economic and military measures” in order for the country to “return to compliance.
“This includes a review of military concepts and options, including options for conventional, ground-launched, intermediate-range missile systems, which would enable the United States to defend ourselves and our allies, should the Russian Federation not return to compliance,” said a State Department memo.
Rybakov said the US claims were “baseless.”
