TOKYO, South Korean President Moon Jae-in highlighted the need for bold and creative steps to rid North Korea of nuclear weapons Thursday, Yonhap News Agency reported.
“We will need bold imagination and creative solutions to make the two summits successful and not repeat the mistakes of the past,” the president was quoted as saying in Seoul at a meeting with the top executives of local news outlets.
Moon and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un are set to meet next Friday for what will be a third inter-Korean summit. US President Donald Trump has also agreed to meet Kim next May or early June. Moon insisted that the success of his upcoming summit with Kim, as well as that of the Trump-Kim meeting, will require bold ideas.
Moon said Seoul and Washington are working perfectly together for the success of their upcoming summits with the North Korean leader but said it is too early to make any promises for any success, according to Presidential Office pool reports.
“The South-North relations can develop when this North Korean nuclear issue is resolved and international sanctions are removed. The North Korea-US ties also need to be improved and the North-Japan relations as well,” Moon added.
