RIYADH, Saudi Arabia and Brazil on Wednesday affirmed the promotion of defense cooperation and continuation of training between the two sides.
This came in a joint statement issued today by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on the occasion of the official visit by Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro upon King Salman bin Abdulaziz’s invitation.
The two sides agreed on sharing visits between the two countries on different levels so as to develop bilateral relations.
They also okayed intensifying contacts and boosting cooperation between officials of both public and private sectors with the aim of deepening and enhancing ties, and encouraging investment, the statement said.
The two leaders reviewed bilateral relations between the two countries and ways of developing and strengthening them in the political, economic, cultural and military fields.
The talks identified several domains to boost cooperation like the agricultural and industrial sectors, energy, mining, infrastructure, transport science, technology and innovation, it noted.
The two leaders also agreed to promote cooperation in the fields of peaceful use of nuclear energy, culture, the use of outer space and sports, which would greatly contribute to boosting economic partnership between the two countries, according to the agency.
They welcomed the announcement of starting negotiations to avoid double taxation and facilitate investment to expand investment flows between the two countries, the statement pointed out.
The two sides discussed issues of common concern on international peace and security, and the need to boost international partnership to combat terrorism and extremism.
They stressed the necessity of intensifying and concerting efforts of the international community in this matter.
The King and the President reiterated that this dangerous phenomenon is not linked to any race, religion or homeland, and that it has become one of the most thorny issues of this era. They agreed to enhance cooperation to counter crime and international terrorism in all its forms, according to the statement.
They shared views on the situation in their regions, political issues, crises in the Middle East region and international issues.
They stressed the need that the international community should assume its responsibilities towards maintaining international peace and security and halting interference in the internal affairs of states, it said.
The Saudi side commended the Brazilian government’s condemnation of the terrorist attacks hit Saudi Aramco’s facilities in Abqaiq and Khurais.
The Brazilian side extolled the great efforts made by Saudi Arabia to maintain regional and international peace and security, it stated.
The two sides approved what has been discussed during the meeting held between Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense, and President Bolsonaro.
Prince Mohammad and the Brazilian leader discussed ways of developing political and economic relations between the two countries, affirming the importance of increasing investments and overcoming the difficulties that hinder the increase of trade exchanges.
They stressed the importance of maintaining the security of energy and the sea routes in the Gulf and the Arabian Sea. In addition, The Saudi and Brazilian sides underlined the need of stability in the Middle East region as a fundamental pillar in maintaining international peace and security.
They stressed the importance of strengthening and consolidating investment and trade relations between the two countries and further developing cooperation in various fields.
They also underlined the significance of exploring available opportunities within the framework of the ambitious vision of the Kingdom Vision 2030, lauding the economic and trade reforms in Brazil and its positive impact on efforts to strengthen bilateral relations, the statement concluded.
