Saudi SABIC, Exxon Mobil set up partnership in US

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia’s SABIC and Exxon Mobil companies on Tuesday announced the establishment of a new partnership as part of their efforts to boost their joint Gulf Coast Development project by setting up an ethane cracker in San Patricio, Texas State, USA. The ethane cracker’s production capacity is 1.8 million tons, according to a press statement today.

The new facility also involves a single ethylene glycol unit and two polyethylene units, it added.

SABIC Vice-Chairman and CEO Yousef Abdullah Al Benyan said in a statement that the project achieves the company’s goals in terms of diversification and supports the Kingdom’s 2030 vision.

He noted that it would also plays a role on enhancing economy in San Patricio.

SABIC is an operational partner of two joint projects with Exxon Mobil in the Kingdom, he stressed.

The operational process of the project is expected to start in 2021-2022 until obtaining required environmental licenses.
