BRUSSELS, Feb 2 (KUNA) Josep Borrell, EU High Representative, will visit Iran on Monday and Tuesday to discuss the Iran nuclear agreement, among other issues, his office announced in a press release Sunday.
During his visit, the EU High Representative will meet with President Hassan Rouhani, the Speaker of the Majlis (parliament) Ali Larijani, and Foreign Minister Javad Zarif.
These meetings will provide opportunities to discuss the recent regional developments, it noted.
Borrell received a strong mandate from the EU foreign ministers to engage in diplomatic dialogue with regional partners, to de-escalate tensions and seek opportunities for political solutions to the current crisis, it stated.
The visit to Tehran follows the High Representative’s visit to Jordan today where he meets with hKing Abdullah II and Foreign Minister Ana Safadi.
The visit to Tehran will also be an opportunity to convey the EU?’s strong commitment to preserve the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and to discuss bilateral relations and cooperation between the European Union and Iran, it added.
