Colombo: Sri Lanka Navy announced on Sunday detaining 14 Indian fishermen and their two boats while poaching in Sri Lankan waters. A Sri Lankan Navy statement said that during a special operation conducted in the sea area north of Mannar in the dark hours of February 8, 14 fishermen and their two boats were captured.
According to Kuwait News Agency, the Navy continues to conduct regular patrols and operations in Sri Lankan waters to curb illegal fishing practices of foreign fishing boats, taking into account the impact of those practices on the livelihood of local fishermen. The fishermen and their boats were brought to the Iranativu Island to hand over to concerned authorities for further legal proceedings, it concluded.
