WASHINGTON, US Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis said Wednesday that the “we are still assessing” intelligence on the alleged use of chemical weapons in Douma, Syria.
Mattis told reporters “we are still assessing the intelligence, ourselves and our allies, we are still working on this.” He affirmed “we stand ready to provide military options if they’re appropriate as the President determined.” On Monday, Trump told reporters at the top of a military leadership meeting “we are getting clarity on that — who was responsible for the weapons attack. We are getting some very good clarity, actually. We have some pretty good answers.” He affirmed that a decision is being made “as to what we do with respect to the horrible attack”, and vowed “it will be met, and it will be met forcefully.
