BRUSSELS, One year from now, from 23 to 26 May 2019, EU citizens in 27 countries will vote to elect their representatives in the European Parliament (EP) and help decide who should lead the EU Commission, the EU’s executive body.
At a press event held at the EP in Brussels Wednesday, EP President Antonio Tajani announced the start of the countdown to the European elections, in which voters will choose the 705 Members of the next EP.
“In a year, from 23 to 26 May 2019, the future of Europe will be in the hands of some 450 million European citizens from 27 countries. They will elect new members of the European Parliament and decide who should lead the European Commission,” Tajani told journalists.” “The next European elections will undoubtedly be a battle, not just between the traditional parties of the Right, Left and Centre but between those who believe in the benefits of continued cooperation and integration at EU level and those who would undo what has been achieved over the last 70 years,” he added.
