The US calls on the Security Council to vote on the ceasefire proposal in Gaza

Baghdad: The United States of America called on the UN Security Council to vote on a draft resolution calling on Israel and Hamas to commit ‘without delay’ to implementing a proposed ceasefire in Gaza.

The United States did not specify, during its announcement of its request to the Security Council, the date of the voting session.

The vote is scheduled to take place today, Monday, but the South Korean presidency of the Council has not confirmed this.

Spokesman for the US mission to the United Nations, Nate Evans, said in a statement: ‘Today, the United States called on the Security Council to vote on the draft US resolution supporting the proposal announced by US President Joe Biden last week.’

He added: ‘the council’s members must not miss this opportunity and must speak with one voice in support of this agreement.’
