Today in Kuwait History: A Series of Notable Events

Kuwait City: In a series of historical events, Kuwait has witnessed significant moments that have shaped its history. One of the earliest events recorded was in 1973 when Iraqi forces attacked the Kuwaiti border outpost at Al-Sametah. This incursion led to a gunfight resulting in the deaths of two Kuwaiti soldiers and one Iraqi soldier, while another Kuwaiti soldier was wounded.

According to Kuwait News Agency, in 2003, Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah declared full mobilization, indicating a period of heightened alertness and preparedness for the nation. This was a critical response during a time of regional tension.

In 2005, notable legislative actions were taken by Kuwait Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, who issued a law establishing the Kuwait Municipality as an independent authority. This move was aimed at enhancing the administrative autonomy of the municipality. The same year marked the passing of Mubarak Al-Hasawi, a former member of the constituent assembly and the National Assembly, who died at the age of 80.

Another significant event was in 2017 when Kuwait, during the Donors Conference on Safeguarding Endangered Cultural Heritage held in Paris, announced the allocation of USD five million to establish a fund for the protection of cultural relics. This commitment highlighted Kuwait’s dedication to preserving global cultural heritage.

Most recently, in 2022, former Member of Parliament Abdullah Al-Naibari passed away at the age of 85. His death marked the loss of a significant figure in Kuwait’s political landscape.
