Trump, Japanese PM discuss upcoming US-N. Korea summit in Vietnam

WASHINGTON, US President Donald Trump spoke Wednesday with Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during which they discussed Trump’s upcoming summit with North Korea’s Chairman Kim Jong-un in Hanoi, Vietnam, on February 27-28.

The White House said in a statement that the two leaders “reaffirmed their commitment to achieving the final, fully verified denuclearization of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK).” “President Trump and Prime Minister Abe committed to coordinating closely in advance of US-DPRK talks,” the statement noted.

On Tuesday, Trump told reporters that he is looking forward to his second summit with Chairman Kim, saying “I think a lot of things will come out of it,” and that “we’re looking forward to having a very good meeting. So I think next week is going to be very exciting.”
