Trump lashes out at New York AG amid lawsuit settlement

WASHINGTON, US President lashed out Thursday evening at New York’s Attorney General after he was ordered to pay USD two million as part of a lawsuit settlement against the Trump Foundation and his children.

In a statement he tweeted, Trump accused the state attorney general of “deliberately mischaracterizing this settlement for political purposes.” He stressed “I am the only person I know, perhaps the only person in history, who can give major money to charity (USD 19M), charge no expense, and be attacked by the political hacks in New York State.” “No wonder why we are all leaving!” he remarked, in reference to his recent decision to change his primary residency from New York to Florida.

He noted that the case was resolved “with the understanding that all money previously in the foundation has gone to charity,” and that he will be donating USD two million to “worthy charities.” For her part, Attorney General Letitia James said in a statement “the court’s decision, together with the settlements we negotiated, are a major victory in our efforts to protect charitable assets and hold accountable those who would abuse charities for personal gain.” “My office will continue to fight for accountability because no one is above the law, not a businessman, not a candidate for office, and not even the President of the United States,” she stressed.
