WASHINGTON, US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he never rules “anything out” regarding a possible meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani but that he “prefers” not meeting him.
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One as he was asked if a meeting with Rouhani is still possible or is that off the table for next week at the UN General Assembly (UNGA), Trump said “I never rule anything out, but I prefer not meeting him.
“I’m not looking to meet him. I don’t think they’re ready yet. But they’ll be ready,” he remarked. “At the right time they’ll be ready.” On Sunday, Trump tweeted that “the Fake News is saying that I am willing to meet with Iran, “No Conditions.” That is an incorrect statement (as usual!).” Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway was asked during an interview on Fox network on Sunday if Trump would still meet Rouhani at the upcoming UNGA, in which she replied “he’ll consider it.” Asked if he has determined whether there is a need to make the releases from the strategic petroleum reserves, Trump replied “I don’t think I need to, but I’m willing to do it.” Over the weekend, Trump announced that in the wake of the attack on the two oil facilities in Saudi Arabia he “authorized the release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, if needed.”
