WASHINGTON, US President Donald Trump on Friday said it was possible his meeting with North Korea leaders could go forward as scheduled, a day after announcing he was cancelling the summit.
Speaking to reporters at the White House before departing for the US Naval Academy in Maryland, Trump said of his meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore “it could even be the 12th [of June], we’d like to do it.” “They very much want to do it,” Trump said referring to North Korea. “We’re going to see what happens.” “Everybody plays games. You know that,” he told reporters when asked about the ongoing talks.
“Very good news to receive the warm and productive statement from North Korea,” Trump wrote Friday morning on Twitter. “We will soon see where it will lead, hopefully to long and enduring prosperity and peace. Only time (and talent) will tell!” North Korea issued a statement following Trump’s decision on Thursday to cancel the talks ran counter to the world’s desire for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula.
