Trump slims ex-FBI chief Comey as “slime ball”

WASHINGTON, Reacting Friday to excerpts from the new book by former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director James Comey, US President Donald Trump tweeted that Comey was a “weak and untruthful slime ball” who deserved to be fired “for the terrible job he did.” “It was my great honor to fire James Comey!” Trump tweeted.

News organizations Thursday evening began reporting on excerpts from advance copies of Comey’s book, which is entitled, “A Higher Loyalty: Truth, Lies and Leadership.” The book offers a devastatingly critical portrait of Trump.

In two tweets, Trump, as he has stated previously, accused Comey of leaking classified information, as well as lying to Congress under oath.

The way Comey handled the FBI investigation into 2016 Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server while she was secretary of state would “go down as one of the worst ‘botch jobs’ of history,” Trump tweeted.

Comey, a Republican, was fired by Trump last May, an action that has been part of the investigation of special counsel Robert Mueller. The primary focus of the Mueller probe has been Russian interference in the 2016 US elections and whether members of the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia to help Trump’s candidacy.
