Tunisian president dies at 93 presidency

TUNIS, Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi has passed away succumbing to health deterioration. He was 93.

Tunisia Presidency announced in a statement, on Thursday, that president Essebsi died at the Military Hospital in the capital Tunis at 10:25 a.m. (07:25 GMT).

The Tunisian Presidency, in the statement, mourned one of the nation greatest men .. the President of the Republic Mohamad Beji Caid Essebsi who had dedicated his life for serving his country. The late president held senior posts after independence, contributed to building the State, and narrowed the gulf among the parties after the revolution, thus sparing the people confrontations, the Presidency noted in its statement in homage of the deceased.

It called on the Tunisians to unify the national ranks, resort to patience and back the constitutional institutions.

Essebsi took the presidency office on December 31, 2014, after serving in many ministerial positions. Following the revolution, he came back to the political arena, winning presidential elections in 2014.
