TUNIS, Turnout in Tunisia’s presidential elections was 27.8 percent at 3:00 a.m. local time on Sunday, while the higher electoral authority called on the eligible voters to cast their ballots.
Authority president Nabil Baffoun told a news conference turnout was 27.84 percent at around 3:00 a.m. and said the voters should carry out their national duty and vote.
He called on interim President Mohammad Ennaceur to address the nation to urge people to vote.
Polling stations opened today for Tunisians to vote for a new president in an early presidential election after the death of the late President Beji Caid Essebsi.
Over seven million Tunisians are registered are eligible voters, who would select among 26 candidates.
