Turkish FM warns of humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan

ANKARA, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu warned Sunday of a humanitarian crisis in Afghanistan, stressing that 10 million Afghan children are at risk of starvation and sickness.

The Turkish news agency (Anadolu) quoted Cavusoglu as saying at a press conference with his German counterpart Heiko Maas in the southern Turkish city of Antalya that more than half of the Afghan people need urgent humanitarian aid.

For his part, the German foreign minister praised Turkey’s efforts in making an important contribution to the evacuation process from Kabul International Airport.

He stressed the necessity to negotiate with the Taliban for the evacuation of German citizens and Afghan local staff to Germany.

Furthermore, he affirmed that he will visit Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Pakistan to discuss the process of an evacuation process by land, expressing his belief that the flow of immigration will continue and increase through these countries.
