ANKARA, Turkey and French Presidents, Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Emmanuel Macron respectively, discussed Friday operation Olive Branch which has been launched by Turkish army against militants in Syria’s northern city of Afrin.
Erodgan said Turkish forces cleared the area from “terrorists” with the objective of eradicating all sources of threats against Turkey’s national security, Anadolu news agency quoted sources at the presidency as saying.
Operation Olive Branch was launched last January 20 with aim of eliminating Kurdish and so-called Islamic State (IS) militants from Afrin.
Erdogan and Macron, meanwhile, discussed a summit between the European Union and Turkey, due in Hungary next Monday.
Erdogan said Turkey was keen on reviving the EU’s accession negotiations.
