ANKARA, A Turkish soldier was killed and five others injured in a terrorist attack, executed by PKK members along with Units of the Popular Protection in northern Syria, Turkey’s Defense Ministry said Sunday.
The ministry added, the terrorists carried out an anti-tank attack in Tel Rifat district in response to Turkish military operations.
Turkish forces responded with retaliatory fire, the statement noted.
“We offer our condolences to the martyr’s family, Turkish Armed Forces, and our nation,” the statement said, also wishing speedy recovery to the injured.
Turkey defines the Units of the Popular Protection as a terrorist organization, an extension to PKK but in Syria.
The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) has been listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the US and the EU.
