UAE newly elected ruler’s career dotted with achievements

The United Arab Emirates’ (UAE) newly elected President Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al-Nahyan is seen by many as the right man to take over the job, having had a career filled with historic achievements.

Born on March 11, 1961 in the eastern city of Al-Ain, he is no stranger to shouldering great responsibilities, having served as the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and the Gulf Arab state’s de facto ruler since 2004, inevitably ascending to the presidency a day earlier.

The new UAE ruler has received a slew of international accolades, including a pair of state honors bestowed upon him by Kuwait’s late Amir Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, in recognition of his contributions towards the liberation of Kuwait after the Iraqi invasion.

He is widely expected to adopt a foreign policy based on virtues such as tolerance and pan-Arab unity, doing his utmost to ensure that his country and the wider region remain on a path towards stability and prosperity.
