UK eases visa restrictions for scientists, researchers

LONDON: The British government on Monday adopted new measures aimed at accelerating the steps to grant visas to scientists and skilled researchers.

In a press statement, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the initiative was taken in conjunction with the Brexit and to attract scientific talents and help it translate its ideas and projects into reality.

Johnson affirmed that this initiative will come into effect on February 20, that is, three weeks after the official Brexit, stressing that the quota system that sets 2,000 visas for scientists annually will be canceled.

He noted that the new immigration system aims to open the way for scientific competencies and fixing the shares of certain owners of ordinary professions, adding any competency that gets support from one of the official national bodies or companies that will be covered by the new procedures.
