UN official: Kuwait remains preserving, disseminating world peace

Kuwait has been a cornerstone in spreading and maintaining world peace, Representative of UN Secretary General and Resident Coordinator in Kuwait Dr. Tariq Al-Sheikh said on Monday.

Speaking in a press statement, marking the International Day of Peace, which falls on September 21 every year, Al-Sheikh said that Kuwait’s international ranking noticeably went up from 42 in 2018 to 36 in 2021.

He pointed out that Kuwait; based on the Global Peace Index 2021, is one of the safest countries in the Middle East and North Africa region, as well as within the Gulf Cooperation Council.

This is shown in Kuwait’s foreign and domestic policy, and its ongoing efforts to enhance peace and security in the Arab world and the whole world, he made clear.

Al-Sheikh pointed out that Kuwait has spared no effort in making several key decisions that concern the Arab region, and maintain international peace and security, indicating that Kuwait’s mediation efforts over three years contributed to resolving the Gulf crisis.

He also pointed to Kuwait’s pioneering efforts during its non-permanent membership at the UN Security Council as it worked to promote the culture of peace by drafting and proposing several resolutions that call for a ceasefire in Syria, among other endeavors.

This year’s theme is “Recovering Better for an Equitable and Sustainable World”.
