UNIFIL Voices Concerns Over Israeli Forces’ Aggression Targeting Peacekeepers

Beirut: The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) has raised concerns regarding the recent activities of Israeli occupation forces near the Blue Line in southern Lebanon. The peacekeeping organization has expressed alarm over aggressive actions directed at its personnel, emphasizing the need for respect and safety for those involved in peacekeeping operations.

According to Kuwait News Agency, UNIFIL reported a significant incident involving gunfire, with one shot directly hitting a UNIFIL base. This marks the first direct strike on a UNIFIL facility since the ceasefire that came into effect on November 27. Additionally, UNIFIL noted at least four other incidents of gunfire near their positions, which have been categorized as serious concerns.

UNIFIL has also brought attention to a particular incident where Israeli forces directed a laser beam at peacekeepers performing their duties alongside the Lebanese Armed Forces near Maroun al-Ras. This event follows a previous incident on May 7, where Israeli tanks used lasers to target a UNIFIL patrol, accompanied by a drone that closely monitored the patrol’s movements.

In response to these developments, UNIFIL has reiterated its protest against such actions, urging for the safety and security of its personnel and property to be respected. The organization continues to call for a de-escalation of hostilities in the region to ensure the stability and safety of peacekeeping missions.
