US adds 128,000 jobs in October, unemployment up to 3.6 pct

WASHINGTON, The US added 128,000 jobs in October as the jobless rate increased to 3.6 percent, the Department of Labor announced Friday.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics, which released the report, indicated that within manufacturing, employment in motor vehicles and parts decreased by 42,000 due to “strike activity.” Federal government employment was down by about 17,000 reflecting a drop in the number of temporary jobs for the 2020 Census.
