US, China mull economic ties, Korean Peninsula

WASHINGTON, Acting US Secretary of State John Sullivan met with Chinese Ambassador Cui Tiankai at the State Department late Wednesday to discuss the bilateral trade ties and the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

They “agreed on the importance of pursuing a constructive US-China relationship that produces meaningful results and reaffirmed the commitment of the United States and China to the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” the Department spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement.

Sullivan reiterated the need to “restore fairness and balance to our economic ties,” according to Nauert.

The two top diplomats agreed to remain in close communication on these and other bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual concern, she added.
