US Energy Sec. urges global alliance to combat Iran’s “malign activity”

WASHINGTON, The time has come to form a global alliance that deals with Iran’s “malign activity,” US Energy Secretary Rick Perry said on Monday.

“I think there will be a coalition effort, both our friends in the Middle East that understand having a crazy neighbor is a real problem,” Perry said in an interview with CNBC.

The secretary’s comments come two days after drone attacks on two of Saudi Arabia’s oil facilities in the eastern cities of Abqaiq and Khurais.

Meanwhile, reiterating in a tweet that “we know the culprit,” in reference to Iran, President Donald Trump said the US was “locked and loaded” and was waiting to hear from Saudi Arabia “under what terms we would proceed.” US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo backed the notion, saying in a tweet of his own, that “Iran has now launched an unprecedented attack on the world’s energy supply.

“There is no evidence the attacks came from Yemen,” he added, after Houthi militants there had claimed responsibility for the dual attacks.
