WASHINGTON, The US highlighted repeated instances of lasers interfering with US military planes landing in Djibouti, Pentagon Spokesperson Dana White said Thursday.
“They are very serious incidents,” White told reporters. “There have been two minor injuries. This activity poses a true, threat to our airmen.” The US has protested the issue to the Chinese government and requested for Beijing to investigate the incidents.
In at least two to 10 incidents, US plans landing at the base were hit with laser beams.
The Federal Aviation Administration has issued a notice to airmen to “use caution for unauthorized laser activity.” “Our concern is the safety of our service members,” White said. “And so we raised the issue with China, and we expect China to investigate it thoroughly.
