WASHINGTON, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday that the House of Representatives will proceed with drafting articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump.
“Today, I am asking our chairman to proceed with articles of impeachment,” Pelosi said.
She stressed “our democracy is what is at stake. The president leaves us no choice but to act because he is trying to corrupt once again the election for his benefit.” She added “if we allow a president to be above the law, we do so surely at the peril of our republic. In America, no one is above the law.” “The facts are uncontested: the president abused his power for his own personal political benefit at the expense of our national security,” she remarked.
White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham tweeted in response to the announcement that Pelosi and the Democrats “should be ashamed”.
She reiterated that Trump “has done nothing but lead our country – resulting in a booming economy, more jobs and a stronger military, to name just a few of his major accomplishments.” “We look forward to a fair trial in the Senate,” she remarked.
