US, Saudi Arabia discuss recent Aramco attacks

WASHINGTON, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has met with Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khaled bin Salman.

During the meeting, the two sides discussed recent attacks on the Aramco facilities in Saudi Arabia, State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a statement on Thursday.

Pompeo agreed that Saudi Arabia has every right to defend itself and its borders, said the statement.

It added that Pompeo and Prince Khaled also discussed “the importance of bilateral cooperation to confront the Iranian regime’s continued destabilizing activities in the region.” The US Secretary of State thanked the Saudi Deputy Minister for his continued efforts to further a political resolution to the conflict in Yemen, noted the statement.

It added that Pompeo and Prince Khaled also discussed the need to safeguard freedom of navigation.
