KUWAIT, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo arrived in Kuwait on Tuesday, as part of Middle East tour where he will lead the US delegation for the third US-Kuwait Strategic Dialogue and meet with Kuwaiti leaders.

Upon arrival, Pompeo was received by Kuwait Ambassador to US Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Sabah and Assistant Foreign Minister to the Americas Reem Al-Khaled.

Last night, Deputy Foreign Minister Khaled Al-Jarallah met visiting Acting US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs David Satterfield, and discussed topics on the agenda of Kuwait-US Strategic Dialogue, including the latest developments in the region and international arena.

Al-Jarallah also said that the meeting with Pompeo will be a great opportunity to sign a number of important agreements between the two countries, mainly in the defense, security, and custom cooperation fields.

In a statement to KUNA, Al-Jarallah welcomed Pompeo, noting that the country is keen to ensure success to the upcoming talks, which will also focus on economic, energy, and investment cooperation between the two countries, in addition to efforts exerted in the fight against terrorism.

In a separate statement to KUNA, Al-Khaled said this round of talks and strategic dialogue between the two countries was supposed to take place last January, and comes after two round of talks that took place in 2016 and 2017.

Al-Khaled noted that the two previous rounds also witnessed the signing of a number of agreements and MoUs, which tackled security, terrorism combat, economy, trade, and education.

Al-Khaled said that the strategic dialogue contributed into establishing the cornerstone for a joint vision and bilateral cooperation between the two countries for the next 25 years.
