US Senate votes to overturn Trump’s emergency declaration

WASHINGTON, A group of US Senate Republicans on Thursday joined Democrats’ approval of a resolution that overturns President Donald Trump’s declaration of national emergency to build his proposed wall with Mexico.

The vote sets the stage for the first presidential veto in Trump’s term as it has already passed the House and headed to the president.

Trump said earlier that he would veto the legislation and overrule it, as the president’s opposers lack the votes to override him.

Last month, the US President declared a national emergency on the southern border last month to build the US-Mexico wall after the Congress refused to fund the whole barrier, which caused a 35-day government shutdown.
