US strongly condemns attack on Libyan Electoral Commission

WASHINGTON, The US strongly condemned Wednesday the so-called Islamic State (IS) “claimed” attack on the Libyan High National Elections Commission in Tripoli, Libya.

State Department Spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement “this terrorist attack against a key pillar of Libya’s fragile democracy only deepens the United States’ commitment to support all Libyans as they prepare for credible and secure elections.” “We stand with all Libyans in the fight against terrorism and remain committed to working with the Government of National Accord to deny (IS) any safe haven in their country,” she affirmed.

At least 12 people were killed and 19 others wounded in a suicide attack that targeted an election commission in Tripoli as a result of two suicide bombers who blew themselves up at the headquarters of the commission.
