US to veto UN draft resolution on Jerusalem – Amb. Haley

NEW YORK– The US said Monday it would veto an Egyptian-tabled UN draft resolution that annulled Washington’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

US Ambassador to UN Nikki Haley, addressing a UN Security Council session on the Middle East, said her country would use the veto the protect the peace process.

She accused the UN of stalling the peace process and brushed aside accusations that the US was biased to Israel.

Haley said the draft resolution was a stumbling block in the path of the peace process. She added that the US was committed to a two-state solution.

The Egyptian draft resolution calls on all countries to refain from installing diplomatic missions in Jerusalem in line with UN Security Council resolution 478 of 1980.

Many country, foremost Britain and France, supported the resolution.
